Improv is spontaneous theater. Unscripted, usually humorous, and one of my most favorite things in the world. Minneapolis is home to some outstanding improv comedy instruction, both at the Brave New Workshop and at HUGE Theater.
HUGE Theater has improv shows SIX NIGHTS A WEEK, and every single one of the people behind the scenes are stellar, amazing, and hardworkingly dedicated human beings. Check them out, and go catch as many shows as you can.
I started taking improv classes because I wanted to produce a one woman show for the MN Fringe Festival and hadn’t been in a theatrical production since flapping a fan as a chorus girl in The Pirates of Penzance my junior year of high school. I continued taking them because I’d never had so much fun in my life.
